Will The Tear On Biceps Tendon At Shoulder Heal On Its Own?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Jul 2015
Question: I have an MRI confirmed longitudinal split tear of my biceps tendon at the shoulder. Does this imply a complete or partial rupture ("split?") and can this type of tear heal on its own without surgical repair ?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I can assure you that most probably this type of the tear heals with out surgery but it also depends on certain aspects. But before I advised you any further I would like to know little detail of your illness.
1.What are your symptoms?
2.Since when you are having this problem?
3.Are you a sportsman or athlete or any high demand person?
4.Can you send me your MRI report?
Please send me answers of these questions. I will try my best to help you.

The current symptoms are weakness and a feeling of internal derangment
Biceps tendon damage occurred approximately 9 months ago although i believe i have had the rotator cuff tear for much longer than that
I have not been active for about a year or so but i consider myself to be athletic and desire to return to that active lifestyle which would include heavy weight training

Brief Answer:
You need to see an Arthroscopy shoulder surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think that partial tear of supraspinatus and sunscapularis is causing you more problem. Biceps tendon is also having degeneration tear.
Since you are having these symptoms since 6 to 7 months and there is continuous pain and difficulty so I would recommend you to meet a shoulder surgeon. I think your subscapularis and supraspinatus tendon needs repair.
Also tenodesis of bicpes tendone can be done if on arthroscopic it was found inflamed and torn.
There is no point in delaying this becuase this will cause shoulder stiffness and muscle weakness.
Partial tear are more painful then complete tear. So it can not be taken lightly.
I hope this answer will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
Thanks
