Will D&C Procedure Lower HCG Levels Quickly?

Question: Hi! I'm going to be taking cytotec on Wednesday to prepare for a D&C. Will this help lower my HCG quickly?
I was suppose to start a egg donor IVF cycle, but became naturally pregnant and miscarried. Any way to lower my HCG quickly so I can start my IVF cycle?

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply

1. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) hormone is high due to pregnancy. It will start lowering only after miscarriage. In other words, it will be lowered only after D&C.

2. But I prefer you go for medical abortion using medicines as this prevents possible uterine injury that might occur with D&C procedure.

3. Medical abortion with pills might take about one week extra time, but safer way.

4. After aborting the present pregnancy you have to wait for 3 months for uterus to take rest and prepare itself for next.

5. hCG values will decrease in a month after successful miscarriage. But wait for 3 months before contemplating IVF.

Will the hcg stop increasing if the yolk sac did not grow nor embryo/fetus?

Ideally in healthy pregnancy hCG values should double every 48 hours.

Not doubling is unhealthy pregnancy.

In cases where yolk sac had not appeared or fetus has stopped growing hCG values wont raise. They fluctuate in narrow range.
