Brief Answer:
Vision improvement following cataract surgery takes 3-4 weeks in children.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
The vision improvement occurs by 1-2 weeks following cataract surgery once the inflammation caused by surgery resolves.
In children this will take about 3-4 weeks as their eyes are more prone for inflammation.
The complete vision development takes place between 6 months to 6 years. Hence it is important to have good vision in both the eyes during this period.

Hence the next treatment options for your child should be
Cataract surgery in another eye as early as possible.
Prescription of glasses for correction of distance and near vision in both the eyes.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
With regards

Brief Answer:
No need to be worried vision will improve.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

No need to be worried.
Focussing or following light develops in children by the age of 3-4 months.
This can be slightly delayed in your child as he had cataract in both the eyes since birth.

Go ahead with the cataract surgery in other eye as scheduled.
Congenital cataracts operated earlier will have very good prognosis.

Hence no need to be worried.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Brief Answer:
Regular follow up is required.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

The first thing to be done in congenital cataract is to get it operated as early as possible preferably within 6 months.
Since you are doing it no need to be worried.

The next thing is to get refraction and correction done and to use spectacles after cataract surgery. This will improve vision and prevent development of lazy eye.

Hence I advice you to attend follow up regularly and get vision and refraction testing done frequently at least once in a year.

If you do these things correctly as advised by your treating ophthalmologist, your child will be fine and he will have near normal vision.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Thank you
