Question: My fingernails look ruffled in the white area and have lines in the pink part. I've had the lines before but nothing wrong with the white part.

Brief Answer:
Need pictures of the nails to see exactly what this could be.

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

Skin conditions are difficult to treat without actually seeing them. So, I suggest you to upload nail pictures. Try a good resolution and clear pictures.

Probable causes:-
May be due to some dietary vitamin deficiency or Iron deficiency. Anemia of many causes leads to such lesions. We have to rule it out too. At this age group it mostly is due to the dietary deficiency of nutrients, a disease known as Toast and Tea syndrome wherein the elderly are unable to keep a good diet. Negligence leads to such symptoms.

I suggest you to take Capsule Perfectil for skin hair and nails to fulfill any deficiency and keep a pace with the growing nails optimally.

Do you have any other bodily symptoms of any other disease, like shortness of breath, undue weakness and weight loss etc???

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns. I will be happy to get back to you shortly. If satisfied here, please give a five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.

Regards!

I have an excellent diet and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and protein. I am concerned about the methylphenidate that I take for depression because the side effects listed mention problems with hands and feet.

Brief Answer:
No, methyphenidate doesn't cause anything you are experiencing.

Detailed Answer:
I welcome you with a follow up query and happy to help you with that.

No, methyphenidate doesn't cause anything like you are experiencing that it is doing with your hands and feet. It doesn't affect the nails.

What you have read, I will explain you in short:
*It causes scaly dermatitis and redness of body skin. May involve hands and feet too.
*At certain temperature, the hands and feet feel numb and cool. The Raynaud's phenomenon is that.

Nails are not involved in the adverse effects of methylphenidate. I am happy that you are on good diet. Keep a proper physical activity too. Take one multivitamin too daily for at least one month. Perfectil Capsule for hair nails and skin' is the best option for you. It will help your skin to shine and nails to glow. Hair and nail growth will also get optimal pace.

Normally our nails grow at 1mm/month rate. Once whole of nails get replaced, hopefully you will get normal looking nails in a few months.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you in no time. If satisfied here, please give a generous five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up after sometime regarding the treatment efficacy and to see any need to change the treatment options is very necessary. Keep a follow up some days after this visit session ends.
