What Should Be An Infants Ideal Weight?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Jun 2014
Question: My daughter is 13 months old and weighing 7.8kgs, her birth weight is 2.64kg. The standard charts say that the current weight is less but some doctors suggest that 12 months kid should have weight thrice the birth one. Also her head circumference is less than the third centile of the growth chart, but again some doctors say that some babies have that. Is there something which I should worry for ?

Brief Answer:
There is no cause for concern

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear XXXX

Being a parent myself I understand your concern and apprehension.

Regarding the weight there is absolutely no cause of concern. I agree with your Pediatrician that birth weight should triple by 1 year of age. Weight wise there is absolutely no reason to worry about your XXXXXXX
Single isolated value of head percentile of less than 3 is less significant. Head circumference has to be sequentially monitored over 2 to 3 months. Persistently low percentile needs to be evaluated further.
If the following criteria are fulfilled there is no cause for concern.
1. Accepting feeds well
2. Sleeps well after feeds
3. Development milestone are normal
4. Is playful and happy.

Well being of baby is just not the graphs and mathematical calculation.

In case you require any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care
