Question: My father has CHF, he is 86 and hjad 6 by passes when he was 79 (flat lined before this surgery). In the last 2 weeks his condition has deteriorated, his physistian has told us his heart has become enlarged, and it is functioning at 20%. He requires oxygen ongoing, it only takes a few minutes off the oxygen for his nose to go blue. My question is how much further can his heart function reduce before he could surcome to his illness.

Brief Answer:
Following answer to your query...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX!

Unfortunately your father disease is already in an advanced stage. So it doesn't need further damages to succumb to his disease.

His heart damage has caused a low Ejection Fraction ~20. Based on this data his heart failure is classified as severe heart failure.

Overall one year survival in this case is around 10-20%.

Hope it answer your queries!
