Brief Answer: DETAILS ARE GIVEN BELOW. FOLLOW THAT. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for writing to us on Healthcare Magic. 1) Constipation is a very common problem among pregnant women. Here, she will take daily 20 to 30 gm dietary fiber in the form of whole grains, fruits, green vegetables, nuts, seeds and beans. She would AVOID spicy food stuffs as much as possible. Ispaghula husk (2 to 4 spoon) like FYBOGEL etc can be taken with water at bed time to increase stool bulk and get motion. Drink more water (2.5 to 3 lit/ day) and take sound sleep regularly. If above regimen fails to treat her constipation, then other laxative (Lactulose etc) can be given after consultation with her OBSTETRICIAN. 2) Common cold and throat infection (bacterial or viral) may be due to seasonal changes or contact with allergen and dust particles. Safe antibiotic like Cephalexin, Combined Amoxicillin & Cloxacillin etc along with Anti-histamine drug like Levocetirizine can be given to treat throat infection and common cold. Kindly, procure a complete prescription from her DOCTOR. In addition, she must maintain oral hygiene to avoid repeated infection. She can use HEXIDINE mouth wash regularly in addition to above and brush her teeth 3 to 4 times daily or after taking foods each time. Some basic home remedies can improve her condition and prevent recurrence: a) Drinking plenty of water or fruit juice to stay hydrated and keep throat moist. b) Inhaling steam or use saline nasal spray to ease nasal congestion and drippy nose. c) Staying away from household dust, pollens, powders, droplets, smoke, allergen substances etc. d) Taking one teaspoon honey & tulsi juice in the morning or hot drink like milk at bed time is quite helpful. e) Taking hot shower bath, sleep with an extra pillow under head and vitamin-C supplements are very much essential. Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query. Wish her good health and successful motherhood.
