What Is The Reason For Weight Gain And Chest Pain?

Question: My daughter is 9 years 4 months old. Since last 6-7 months I noticed she has put on weight and her body structure is changing. She is complaining of frequent chest pain around lower ribs both left and right side. Specially while she is playing or jumping she will get this sudden pain in the same area. What are these symptoms ? Is it normal to get such pain during pre-puberty phase? Do we need to take her for the proper check up? Please guide us. Thank You

9 to 11 years is age of pre-puberty. Lot many changes occur in a girl child. Putting on weight and change in body appearance is due to pubertal growth spurt. It is likely that pain in lower ribs she is experiencing is likely to development of breast buds which could lead to such complaints. Also possibility of musculoskeletal pain due to muscle spasm cant be ruled out.

A routine assessment by your child's Paediatrician will be very reassuring.
