Brief Answer:
BUN/creatinine ratio is helpful in assessing renal and liver disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Full form of BUN is blood urea nitrogen. As its name suggests,it assess amount of nitrogen present in urea.
BUN and BUN/creatinine ratio is helpful in assessing renal, liver disease etc.Its altered ratio is helpful in assessment that problem is within kidneys or outside the kidneys.
BUN and creatinine are freely filtered in kidneys.BUN reabsorption can be regulated whereas creatinine reabsorption is fixed.
BUN can be formed by many sources including dietary and tissue turnover etc whereas creatinine is mainly formed in muscles.
BUN variations due to protein intake, endogenous protein catabolism, state of hydration, hepatic urea synthesis and renal urea excretion.

BUN/Creatinine ratio is increased means BUN is reabsorbed more as in dehydration, decreased perfusion etc.
Decreased BUN/Creatinine ratio means BUN is not absorbed due to problem in kidneys.
So,it is helpful in assessing source of problem.

Type of amino acids varies in different food.

Hope I have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.
