What Is The Prognosis Of Renal Cell Carcinoma Metastasized On Bone?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Jun 2015
Question: What stage/what is the prognosis for renal cell carcinoma that keeps reappearing in bone areas outside the original effected areas? My husband had a brain tumor successfully removed and was followed up by gamma knife radiation, then his left kidney removed with a contained tumor, and he was cancer free for over a year. Then a spot showed up in his hip which was killed by radiation, and now a new tumor formed within 90 days of his last MRI& catscan in the back of his skull, far away from the tumor that was removed from the left side of his brain. Does this mean the cancer is in his bone marrow?

Brief Answer:
Prognosis is good and with treatment survival time is 5 years

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Your husband is suffering from stage 4 renal cell carcinoma.

As the tumour keeps appearing in bone areas I would advise you to do a bone scan. The cancer is primarily not in his bone marrow. Bone scans will guide us to the next steps of action.

Generally prognosis of stage 4 kidney cancer with treatment is good and average survival time is around 5 years.
