Question: My wife has achieved a bmi of 20 through healthy diet. In a recent blood test her Hb was found to be 11.6. Is this normal? Does Hb reduce with BMI?

Hi and thanks for the question.
Its laudable that she has such a good BMI. It shall be great if she continues with these healthy habits to maintain it as much as possible between 18 and 25.
A blood hemoglobin level of 11.6g/dl is very normal for a woman. She has a very normal blood hemoglobin and need not worry.
BMI and hemoglobin are not related. Changes in BMI have nothing doing with hemoglobin. BMI is the body mass index, which is a measure that compares the body weight with respect to the height of the individual. Its a calculation with dividing the body weight measured in kilogrammes by the height, measured in metres squared.
Her BMI is ok, her Hb ok, and accept my bravo for the healthy lifestyle. She needs to continue.
Thanks and best regards,
Luchuo, MD.
