Brief Answer:
Take Ranitidine 12 hours apart and before food.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.

Ranitidine is used for stomach pain, gastritis, acid reflux and ulcers. You need to take it 12 hours apart and around 20-30 min before food. It will decrease the acid that is in your stomach, and in this way will calm down your stomach pain.

Hope this is helpful.

Brief Answer:
Should start working since after the first tablet you take.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the follow-up question.

Ranitidine should work immediately after the first tablet.
If the effect of it is not helping, and if you have actually been diagnosed for peptic ulcer by an fibrogastroscopy examination, then ranitidine is not the best option, because it is used only to relive pain but not to treat the ulcer.

Some options in this case are Omeprazole 20mg, Pantoprazole 40mg, Lansoprazole 15 mg, which need to be take once/day, before food.

If you haven't still been diagnosed with fibrogastroscopy, then the gastroenterologist is the right specialist in your case, who can also rule out other causes of the pain except that that comes from the peptic ulcer.

Hope this is helpful.

Regards,

I go to a gasteroligist on next Wednesday for a scope. Haven't been diagnosed yet. I have a history of acid reflux. My pcp diagnosed me with costriatis last month. But he wants me to do the scope to determine if my reflux is causing some of the pain. I have taken Ibouprohen 800 mg but it upset my stomach. He told me I could do alleve and the reti dine until my appt. Any other suggestions until I go to the specialist?

Brief Answer:
some advises before seeing the local specialist

Detailed Answer:
Hello again dear,

Some advises I have for you before going to the specialist are:
-- Avoid Ibuprofen. It will make your pain worse.
-- Avoid foods that make the acid in your stomach increase...fried good, spicy, acid foods, ect.
-- Eat frequently and small amounts of foods.

I am glad to have helped somehow.
Take care.

Is it safe to take alleve. Right now I'm just doing the reti dine twice a day.

Brief Answer:
Aleve, is in the same family that Ibuprofen is.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Aleve (Naproxen) is in the same family as Ibuprofen (a painkiller), so it still will hurt your stomach, even if it causes slightly less side effects comparing with Ibuprofen.

I would say, if you need a pain killer for other medical problems, you can try first to use Tylonol (acetaminophen) 500-1000mg, every 4-6 hours.

If that is not helpful, then ok use Aleve but make sure to use it with food.
Ranitidine will protect a little bit your stomach.

But if Aleve makes your stomach pain worse, even if you are using Ranitidine, then you will need to wait until the appointment with the specialist when he will surely suggest something stronger then Ranitidine to protect your stomach.

Regards,

During the gas trophy do they put you to sleep or are you sedated?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Klarida Papaqako (7 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Will be used a local anesthetic spray

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

In some places the procedure is done differently, but mostly during Gastroscopy they may use a local anesthetic spray which will to numb your throat for the procedure and you'll be asked beforehand if you'd like to have a sedative injection.

The sedative will help you feel drowsy and relaxed during the procedure. You will need to stay in hospital for a bit longer until you recover. You may need someone to pick you up from the hospital and stay with you for at least 24 hours.

You won’t able to work or drive during this period.

Looking forward to other questions if you still have any.

Take care.
