Posted on Wed, 28 Jan 2015
Question: I TOOK 100 MGS MORE THAN I SHOULD OF OF MY ZOLOFT FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND IM MODERATELY ANXIOUS CAN I TAKE BENADRYL TO HELP COUNTERACT THE SYMPTOMS? HOW LONG WILL IT STAY IN MY SYSTEM THE ZOLOFT AFTER ONE WEEK OF TAKING IT INSTEAD OF MY 200 MG DOSAGE? I AM ONLY SUPPOSED TO INCREASE MY DOSAGE DURING THE LUTEAL PHASE OF MY PERIOD BECAUSE I HAVE BAD PMDD? I HAVE ATIVAN BUT I AM NOT GONNA TAKE MORE THEN 2.5 MGS - 3 MGS BECAUSE I WAS WEANING OFF THAT DOSAGE BUT THE LAST WEEK IVE HAD TO GO FROM 1 1/2 MGS TO ALMOST 3MGS A DAY. ATIVAN IS ADDICTING AND I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE MORE AND IT HAS NOT WORKED THAT GREAT AT REDUCING MY ANXIETY. ALSO I HAD STARTED .5 MGS OF ESTRADIOL AT THE SAME TIME I STARTED MORE ZOLOFT TO HELP WITH SYMPTOMS. I AM NOT TAKING THAT AS OF YESTERDAY BECAUSE MY DR. PUT ME ON PROGESTERONE 200 MGS AT NIGHT TIME? WILL BENADRYL HELP? THANKS

Brief Answer:
You can use benadryl for sedation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Bemadryl will cause the sedation and will not help to decrease the anxiety much. You can combine the use of benadryl with Zoloft or Ativan to relax. It is non addictive and will help you sleep calmly. Avoid using it during the daytime. The increased dosage of Zoloft that you have taken will take at least a week to 10 days to get out of your system as you are continuing with the lower dosage of zoloft now also.
Do some deep breathing relaxation exercises and increase your fluid intake.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
