What Is The Dosage Of Suboxone Inspite Of Taking Codeine Sulfate?

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: I have been prescribed 360 mg a day of codeine sulfate for 4 years. I am starting suboxone teatment at 2 mg daily next week and I am afraid that the dose will be too high. I have had bariatric roux en y surgery and do not have a usable small intestine so I probably am not ingesting the whole 360 mg of codeine. Can suboxone be dangerous under these conditions?

Brief Answer:
You need not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HealthcareMagic forum.
I am Dr Aslam here to help you.

The usual maintenance dose needed for suboxone(buprenorphine+naloxone) varies from 4mg/1mg to 24mg/6mg per day.As your doctor has planned,we begin with a small dose, and depending on the response,we adjust the dose progressively in increments of 2mg/0.5mg to a level that just holds you in treatment.Once this is achieved,we can maintain that dose and follow up.

So,if at all you are not absorbing codeine fully, that means we can reach the target response early, and can have the maintenance dose on the lower side.
Your doctor will take all these issues well into his consideration. You need worry.

Hope I have answered your query.if you have further questions,I will be happy to help.
Wishing you good health,Thank you.

If I am actually now absorbing very little to no codeine due to no stomach or small intestine, could the prescribed dosage of 2mg of Suboxone film be too much or dangerous? The doctor did not appear to understand the Roux en Y mal-absorption issue. Would I be better off cutting the 2 mg film in half and trying just one-half first? I do not want to overdose. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Kindly give the correct dosage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
To guide you better, kindly give me the correct dosage you are given.
As I mentioned,Suboxone is a combination of two drugs. The dose comes as 2/0.5,4/1,8/2 etc.
So the 2 mg you mentioned is which drug?
Is it 2/0.5 or 8/2 ?

Waiting your reply,Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You need not make it half.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
This is the lowest dose to start with.A dose below this will not achieve target plasma concentration to have any pharmacological effects.
You can start with it;need not make it half.

Hope you got it cleared now.
If you have no further questions, you can close the discussion and rate the answer.
Take care,Thank you.
