What Is The Dosage Of Mifepristone And Misoprostol To Terminate Pregnancy?
Question: I am 29 years old. I had my last period on 2nd March 2015. Now, since I have missed my period this month I went to the doctor on 6th April 2015 who confirmed pregnancy of around 1.25 months. My queries are as follows:
1. Can the pregnancy be of 1.25 months, looking to the fact that I got physically active only after 10th March 2015.
I have been given tab Gestapro by chemist as doctors here in XXXXXXX generally donot legally prescribe abortion pills. There are 5 pills in the pack. 1 Mifepristone & 4 Misoprostol..The doctor & chemist both told me to 1st take Mifepristone tab and then exactly after 48 hrs take 4 Misoprostol Tabs all together. Following are my queries in this regard:
1. Is the above dosage proper?
2. Got to learn from a friend that she got bleeding within 24 hours of consumption of Mifepristone.She dint had to take Misoprostol. Is it possible? If yes, within approx what time of consuming Mifepristone can bleeding start?
3. Within what time of consuming 4 Misoprosol tablets does bleeding generally start (So that I can plan accordingly)?
4. Also kindly name some medicine to control pain at the time of bleeding?
5. Upto how much hrs does heavy bleeding last?
6. How heavy is the bleeding? Would it be possible to hide in from others at home?

I have read you query and I understand your concerns.
Pregnancy is calculated in weeks or days in early pregnancy. Considering your last menstrual period was on 2nd March, on 6th April you were 5 weeks pregnant.
As far as abortion and abortion pills are concerned, the following is my reply:
Taking abortion pills can be dangerous and life threatening if taken without getting ultrasound scan done. Above mentioned regimens do work but I strongly advice you against taking Gestapro without ultrasound scan. Only if you see intrauterine pregnancy on ultrasound scan then:
1) The dosage is proper.
2) It is possible that you don't need misoprostol if the abortion is completed by mifepristone alone.
3) You expect bleeding to start between 12 to 24 hours after taking misoprostol.
4) This bleeding cannot be controlled with medicines. You need to undergo D&C.
5) Bleeding generally lasts for about 2 days.
6) The bleeding can be heavy in some women especially who try the drugs without supervision. It will be difficult to hide at home. It's dangerous situation. That is why I monitor all my patient's carefully during pregnancy termination. I will strongly recommend you get abortion done under strict medical supervision and after an ultrasound scan.

I have taken mifepristol on 8th 9am and today on 10th 9 am I have taken other four tabs from the pack. I had bleeding 1-3 times on 9th. Now today even after more then 7 hrs of taking tablets. I get light bleeding only or when I use washroom that time some bleeding is there. But no heavy bleeding has occurred. Is it something to worry. Pls suggest what to do now.
Also I encountered severe stomachache during the day. Still there is some pain in stomach.
