What Is The Dosage Of Lorazepam For Muscle Spasms?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Apr 2015
Question: 6 mg of lorazepan controls my muscle spasms but my doctor will only prescribe 4 mg because she says she could lose her license if she prescribed 6 mg. Other health professionals tell me 6 mg is just fine. I am in good health otherwise but also take medication for depression. Without lorazepam, the pain from muscle spasms is so bad that i could not live with that pain. i am a happily married 69 year- old female, 5 ft, 115 pounds with low cholesterol. i walk for an hour 4 times a week and actively keep house and garden after a 35-year career in college counseling. I am aware the risks go up when I take 6 mg but i am suffering with only 4 mg. Life without quality is not life. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
You can have same effect with 4 mg also

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I can understand your concern. But your doctor are doing right thing by reducing dose of Lorazepm.Lorazepam is a habit forming medicine and it should not be taken for long time. It causes depression and sedation. So I would recommend you to slowly reduce its dose. I have following suggestions for you.
1. You can ask your doctor to give you Diazepam. It is medicine of same group but long acting and less habit forming.
2.Muscle spasm can be due to low salt, calcium and vit D3. So whenever there is spasm you should take glass of water with pinch of salt.
3.Tablet Methylcobal and CCM should be taken regularly.
4.Ask your doctor to prescribe tablet Carnisure once daily for three months.
I hope this answer will be helpful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

I just realized that diazepan is Valium. I would love to get that medication but my doctor and her whole organization say they will not prescribe it and that it is illegal to do so (unless that is just lawyer talk for cover-your-behind). Sometimes the feds threaten to withhold money if state health groups don't follow their recommendations. So that is also what may be happening.

Brief Answer:
Diazepam is a better drug than lorazepam

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Though valium also causes sedation still it has less abuse potential so It wold be better for you. If they are giving you lorazepam 6 mg only than you can take it alternate day one and half tablet.so dose will be higher and frequency will be less. Some patient feel better in that way.
Also follow other advice as I told you.
let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
