Swollen legs and ankles signifies edema feet, which is a medical symptom for a plenty of conditions.

Various causes of edema feet are:

Prolonged standing
varicose veins
anemia or the low hemoglobin
cardiac conditions like heart failure
liver conditions
renal damage- secondary to diabetes
Hypothyroidism


As you can see , there are many reasons for swelling ankles, please let me know if you are suffering from any of these conditions.
