Question: my friend has constant lower urinary tract infection, and has tried various antibiotics....but it keeps returning...what could be the cause and what is the possible treatment?

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your friend has chronic UTI. have

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on his/her problem.
1) What is the gender and age of of your friend ?
2) Has he/she taken antibiotics with advice by qualified Physician after due investigations ?


Please get his/her routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

Please ask him /her take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefexine along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water.To keep urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

Please ask him/her consult qualified Urologist for proper evaluation and further treatment.

my friend is female,and she has taken urine test and culturing showing that she has e-coli,saphrophyticus, and mycoplasma and she is taking cefexine...by the advice of a physician....but you advice her to continue with cefexine and additional nitrofurantoin,and what urine alkalier should she use?

Thanks for follow up.UTI in females take long time to get cured as compared to males due to proximity of urethral opening to genitalia ndn anus making them more prone for getting repeated episodes of UTI.

Ask her to take appropriate antibiotics as per culture report for one month and repeat urine culture after one month.
