What Is The Cause And Treatment For Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

Question: Hello Doctor,
I am 30Y old, male. Generally healthy and under no medications currently.
I am observing some undigested food in my stool for the last two weeks. And also my stomach is making lot of loud sounds all of a sudden making me rush to toilet. There is lot of gas to start with and all along, and also i am having to push a bit to start bowel movement. Sounds settle down once I pass stool (mostly gas) and start again with in couple of hours after any intake. The quality of the stool is also not good, it is mostly pasty, melts into water like powder (type 5).

All of these above symptoms (along with blood in stool) started 3 months ago, and settled down after using RIFAGUT, RAZO, MEVA-SR and VSL#3 course (IBS) including blood in stool, but resulted in piles (I don't know which caused what as there was lot of burning while passing stool with these symptoms then). Then I have taken Ayurveda treatment for piles and there is no pain while passing stool now. However I believe the initial little push that I have to give is due to that treatment. I could fell some stiffness/tightness of anal opening, which doctor says will form again naturally over time again ( 1or 2 months more ).

I have been in wait and watch mode for the last week and I could feel some improvement, but still some discomfort in stomach.
What am I suffering from? Please help me with diagnosis and medicine.
Please let me know if you need to know any more information.

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)-A

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Symptoms you have with duration of more than 3 months surely forces to consider IBS as the diagnosis especially IBS-A varient. GERD also can produce these symptoms as a complication but not for long duration.

I would not consider the piles you developed could be due to the medications mentioned above. They infact help in case of piles.

Continue the medications along with the ayurveda medications for piles if the Ayurveda specialist if ok with it,

You may have to increase the fiber content of the food, like taking Psyllium husk every day. This will surely help you.

Hope, I answered your query.

Please do ask if any doubts.

Hello Doctor,

Thanks for replay.

In general what tests are done to confirm IBS-A.

Another symptom I forgot to add was my urine color, it is yellow but no burning sensation while passing urine. However when I drink large amount of water and pass urine in short time, color is normal.

Does this also match with symptoms of IBS?

Thanks,

Brief Answer:
Diagnosis based on symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

Diagnosis of IBS is usually made based on symptoms only. There are no reliable tests which help in diagnosing the IBS.

No, the urine color may not be associated with IBS. It could be a lone effect of dehydration. Consuming ample amount of water would suffice there.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.
