What Is The Cause And Treatment For High Myopia?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Jul 2014
Question: I have myopia. Very severe (-11 and -12 are my contact prescriptions). Starting yesterday at about 8pm in my -12 eye (right) I had a flash of black, followed by a zig zag of green and then a flash of white light throughout the whole eye and then for about 1/2 hour I had a pink tint to my vision. No weird things in the eye, I took out my contacts and nothing was wrong with them. Pupils were normal. After the half hour passed I had no issues until approximately 3am this morning when I woke up to a head ache and double vision. I threw up twice in succession and was fine, no other symptoms and no more eye pain. Should I see an eye doctor about this, or was it just a minor incident (like a migraine)?

Brief Answer:
You need to consult your eye doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

It seems from the history that you are having high myopia of -11 and -12 dioptres. The episode of seeing flashes of light and zig zag lines cannot be ignored without proper evaluation in people with high myopia, as this may indicate problems related to the posterior segment in the form of vitreous degeneration, vitreous detachment, retinal thinning, retinal degenerations....
Hence you require to consult your ophthalmologist for examination of fundus by dilated ophthalmoscopy to rule out any of the above mentioned causes and treatment for them if present.

The episode of headache, double vision, vomiting.... are seen in migraine, but still this requires evaluation by ophthalmologist because of presence of high myopia.

Hence I advice you to consult your eye doctor for examination and treatment accordingly.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
