Hello!

Thank you for the query.

The scab and the varicose veins indicate that you have chronic venous insufficiency. The blood instead of getting back to the heart remains in the veins. This results with skin changes, veins thrombosis and can lead to ulcer creation.
As a temporal relief, you should put a pressure on the whole limb. To do that, please get compression stockings. Please wear them until surgeon visit..
As a permanent solution, you should have Dopplers veins ultrasound, consult general surgeon and have surgery done.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

thank you, CAN I HEAL THE SCAB? you don't think the scab would be a melanoma?
I have had previous operations and veins stripped in both legs
varicose veins returned, r leg (other leg to scab) redone and wound broke down
very wary of having any further surgery, how could I manage the condition
as it is. thank you you again for your opinion, XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Scab on the varicose vein is not a melanoma. You will heal the scab with the compression. It will improve the blood circulation and let the skin to get healed.
There are two main superficial veins in the leg which can cause varicose veins. As on is stripped, another one (located under the knee) can be insufficient as well. There fore, its suture (not removing, just suture) should improve the leg as well.
However you may try with stockings first. Believe me, it may help much just wear them every day.

Thankyou for your reply and advise, I will wear the stockings
Is there a danger if the vein bleeds at night while I'm asleep and unable to
apply pressure? In this situation would the bleeding stop on it's own accord?

Detailed Answer:
The veins should not bleed by itself. Usually there must be some factor like a touch or scratch which triggers the bleeding.
You may put some pressure with bandage for the nights until the scab wont be healed. This should prevent any bleeding during the night.
Vein blood pressure is quite low. Bleeding from small veins usually stops by its own.
