Brief Answer:
Creatinine is raised in Kidney disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM.
I understand your concerns.

I hope that you are referring to serum creatinine. Serum creatinine is a test done to assess the kidney function. The normal range of Serum creatinine is 0.1 to 1.0.

If the value is more than 1.0, it indicates that you have a kidney damage which results in low filtering function of the kidney. This will cause creatinine to rise.

If the level of creatinine is high, it would be a good idea to understand why the level is high. An ultrasound can help check the function of the kidney.

I hope this has answered your query. Please post a follow up if you have further queries. Wish you good health.

The scale my doc mentioned is.0-5., so maybe its a different form of creatin. She said mine was. 9, 6 months ago and last Thursday it had risen to 3, while she said at 4 I would be on dialysis. how does this relate to the type of creatin you are refering? Would something I eat ot drink or don't eat or drink cause this. Like to much soda or not enough water? She discovered this in my blood work. XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
At scale 5 dialysis is needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

There is only one type of creatinine and the upper limit is at 1.0. What your doctor means when she puts you on dialysis at level 5 is that the kidney damage is enough to need to start you on dialysis.

Dialysis is started when kidney function is below 30 %. This is based on the doctor's preference and how you are doing in terms of symptoms.

Creatinine levels do not change based on diet and hence it is one of the most accurate tests for kidney function.

I hope this has answered your query. Please post a follow up if you have more questions.
