Question: Hello, I would like some information on kidney tests. My Cr was 2.2, BUN 24, CrClearance 60, Kidney Ulrasound normal. I am taking Lithium. This was a a Dr. who was new to me and also in a new state. Should I be worried about the results of the tests he did order? When politely questioned, he got angry and fired me! Thanking you in advance. XXXXXXX XXX YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Decreased kidney functions likely. Needs ruling out differentials

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Your renal function tests are deranged slightly. Average creatinine clearance should be more than 97 in women. Creatinine should be less than 1.3 . BUN levels should be less than 20 and yours are 24.

Now usually when it happens there is possibility of kidney malfunctioning or reduced in functions.
Some other possibilities when it happens are

Urinary tract obstruction
Congestive heart failure or recent heart attack
Gastrointestinal bleeding
Dehydration, resulting from not drinking enough fluids or for other reasons
Shock
Severe burns
Certain medications, such as corticosteroids and some antibiotics
A high protein diet
Kidney problems, such as damage to the tubule cells
Kidney failure
Too little blood flow to the kidneys
Damage to the filtering units of the kidneys
Loss of body fluids (dehydration)
Bladder outlet obstruction
Heart failure

You need to get to a nephrologist and let them clinically correlate it for you. It needs management and work up before it is too late.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
