What Does This Antibody Screen During 29 Weeks Of Pregnancy Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 12 Aug 2015
Question: I'm 29 wks pregnant with my 4th child. I had an ultrasound at 19.3 weeks that showed everything to be completely normal.
All my previous pregnancies were completely normal, uncomplicated, vaginal births.
I have never had a miscarriage or any pregnancy that ever ended in anything but an uncomplicated live birth.
My blood type is B+.
My midwife took blood for labs at the beginning of May.
The 'ANTIBODY SCREEN, RBC W/REFL ID, TITER AND AG' line on the lab report says 'POSITIVE'. The line under it says "Reference range No antibodies detected".
Midwife is very concerned about Rh sensitization and wants to do further testing.
Should I be concerned??

Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to HCM,

I can understand your concerns,

Rh sensitization occurs if mother has Rh negative blood group or she has any previous history of blood transfusion.

In your case, your blood group is Rh positive and assuming you do not have any previous history of blood transfusion. So you need not to worry about it.In pregnancy there is chances of false positive result.

Consult your gynecologist about it.

Hope it helps.

Feel free to ask further.

Thanks.

This is what I suspected after reading WebMD articles.

Is it necessary in your opinion to do further blood work?
(Cost for further lab work will be out of pocket, so I'd rather not pursue if it's not necessary.)

Also, were you able to view the lab results I attached?
Did you notice anything else that could be of concern? i.e. warrant further testing. My midwife said she was also concerned that there wasn't a Titers number.... I don't know exactly what that means...

Brief Answer:
no need for further testing.

Detailed Answer:
Really sorry for the late response.

I have read your reports thoroughly. It is normal.

In my opinion, there is no need for further investigations.

The Rh sensitization affect babies in subsequent deliveries and not the first baby.
Your previous deliveries have been absolutely normal. So, I think this delivery would also be normal.

If you want to be more cautious, you can take one Anti D injection now and one just after delivery.

Kindly discuss this with your Gynecologist.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
Thanks.
