Brief Answer:
prostatic cancer management

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXX,

You have been treated with pelvic radiation and lupron and your PSA is at steady pace. Though it's good sign, but the trouble is it's still unpredictable. Some more measures need to be taken before the disease shows of again. This includes serum testosterone level. Prostatic cancer mostly spreads to bones and you have to know the bony status by measuring alkaline phosphatase/ bone scan.

If your testosterone is at castrated level then you have been hormone sensitive. We can continue with the hormonal treatment then. High levels indicate you are hormonal independent and may even need chemotherapy.

As long as your PSA is normal and skeletal system is free enjoy the remission; but periodical checking of PSA is must.

In prostate cancer complete cure is remote but we always measure the cure in the form of good survival period.

Hello Doctor. Thanks so much for your help. One other question on this topic. How long does it take for a 3-month course of Lupron to leave a man's body.

Brief Answer:
Lupron dossage

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXX,
Thanks for reverting.
It depends upon the dose of lupron you were having. These injections are slow release injections and take equal amount of time according to frequency with which you had lupron treatment. if you were on monthly injection or six weekly injection or thee monthly injection or 6 monthly injection of lupron they are effective for that much time. To this you have to add another 50 percent of extra time for its complete clearance from the body. By this I mean if you were on lupron depot on three monthly dose it will act for three months and its complete effectivity will slowly wane in almost another 1 and a 1/2 month that means almost 4 .1/2 month or even little more depending on your body metabolic activity.
