Posted on Sat, 5 Apr 2014
Question: I am a generally healthy 43 year old man. I was looking over an ECG that I had administered some time back. I was wondering if you could tell me what the following clinical observation means: Incomplete Right Bundle Branch is Now Present. Borderline ECG. Diagnosis: normal sinus rhythm. Thank you!

Brief Answer: Further tests needed... Detailed Answer: Hi, I have gone through your query carefully and understood your concerns. Please bare in mind that the incidence of incomplete right bundle branch (IRBB) increases by age. As long as you have normal sinus rhythm, there is nothing you should be worried about. I suggest to do a - complete cardiac check up to exclude atrial fibrillation. - chest X-ray to exclude pulmonary problems. Hope it answered to your query! Feel free to ask me other questions you might have! Dr.Benard

Thank you very much doctor. That puts me at ease. Can you tell me what exactly IRBB is? Does it have symptoms? The only other observation my doctor mentioned was my Ekg showed a "rabbit ear" pattern in one area. I was assured it was nothing to worry about. I do at times get the sense my heart rhythm is off...I get irregular beats that are difficult to describe, not often though.

Brief Answer: IRBB is only an EKG finding, not pathology... Detailed Answer: Hi back, Thank you for following up. IRBB is actually a finding in the EKG and not properly a condition. It is due to blockage of the impulse on the left His bundle and is characterized by QRS complex of 100 to 120 ms (incomplete blockage). In v, there is rsR' patern, that looks like letter M or the "rabbit ear". This is only an EKG finding and nothing to be worried about. Try to relax and to control stress/anxiety and to follow healthy lifestyle and diet regimen. Dr.Benard

So basically its indicative of some sort of possible heart rhythm or impulse abnormality ? Perhaps like AFiB or elongated qt syndromes. I do not worry as I am healthy otherwise and take quite good care of myself.

Brief Answer: Not similar to Afib... Detailed Answer: Hi, It is a normal EKG finding and not related to any condition/disease, especially in healthy asymptomatic individuals as you. It is not like Afib either as it does not have elongated QT segment. Dr.Benard
