What Does The Following Abdominal Ultrasound Report Indicate?
Question: As part of an master health check up I had done an ultrasound of the abdomen. One of the findings of the USG was as follows "Gallbladder is well distended. No evidence of calculus. Wall thickness appears normal. No evidence of periGB collection. Multiple hyper echolic foci along the GB wall largest measuring 4.6mm S/o polyps". I was then asked to meet a General surgeon who suggested that I remove the gallbladder through a laparoscopic procedure. He said that most polyps eventually turn cancerous. I asked him if there was any side effects of removing the gallbladder - he said there was none. I wanted another opinion and so am reaching out to you.

Gall bladder polyps are usually Sinister. But we advice surgery for patients with Polyps larger than 1cm or 10mm. They are more likely to turn cancerous. So if you do not want to get operated presently you could easily keep it under observation with six monthly Ultrasounds. But getting it operated would also not be a wrong decision.
As far as the after effects of Gall bladder removal. There are very few problems expected after such a Surgery. Some people feel bloated and Upper abdominal fullness after this surgery and others feel nausea, burning or Gastritis. But these are not very common and even if they happen they are temporary and can be managed with medications.
As for the complications, Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is one of the commonest surgeries performed in the World but they will make you sign a consent form in which all sorts of possible complications would be mentioned, however rare. Therefore I advice you to go through that form carefully and then sign.
As for your decision to get operated is completely upon you.
