Question: I am not overweight and very active but my blood work recently came back with a fasting blood sugar level of 119. Am I considered prediabetic? If so, what type of diet should I be on?

Brief Answer:
119mg/dl is a prediabetic range sugar value

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

Mam, First let me appreciate for your positive approach.

The normal fasting blood sugar levels are 70-110mg/dl. The fasting blood sugar level you have mentioned comes under prediabetic(110-126) range. But one single figure cannot assess that. Get glucose tolerance test done, If that test shows the higher values of prediabetic, then it can be confirmed.

Mean while as you asked, The food and life style changes to follow are:

Small and frequent rather than heavy meals at a time.
High fibre diet, green leafy vegetables, fruit.
Cut down the processed food. White bread, doughnuts, white sugar, pizza should be completely avoided.
A 40 minute physical activity every day like morning walk, evening walk or a visit to the gym or swimming pool.

Hope this guides you. For any other queries you can write to us. we will be happy to help you. Thank you.
