Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: I am a male and I have a dark red lump size of nickel under my armpit for 2 weeks now. What could this be? I also had a cortisone shot in this area 2 and a half weeks ago.

Brief Answer:
Looks like skin infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.

I would like to know a few things that will help me better to tell you the answer.
- Was the Cortisone shot given through the present lesion you have shown in the picture ?
- Why was it given?

The picture shows that the dermis that is the skin itself has an edema and redness. This indicate an infection and this may be just an erysipelas.

A course of an antibiotic may clear it up.

If the shot of cortisone was given through this area, it can be still the same and the needle puncture cause the infection, treatment remains same.

I hope this answers your query. Please feel free to ask for any relevant queries if you need to or if you feel that there is a gap-of -communication.
