Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2015
Question: I had a medical abortion in the month of december, 2014. Next period came in Feb, 2015 which was heavy but lasted for 1 week. Next period was heavier and it lasted for arnd 10 days. Dr prescribed Trenaxa MF for 8 days and Taxim -o for 5 days. This time again its almost 9 days and its still bleeding - on the 6th day it stopped for arnd 20 hrs and then again it started. further previos spotting is there for arnd 3-4 days. Dr has again prescribed Trenaxa MF for 3 days 3 times. Is it ok to have such prolonged periods... how long will this cycle continue... is it ok to take trenaxa MF again

Brief Answer:
Probably post abortal DUB

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Heavy bleeding in periods after abortion can be due to post abortal dysfunctional uterine bleeding. In this condition, the bleeding is irregular and heavy after one has undergone medical or surgical abortion. This can be due hormonal disturbances and anovulation, which is common for 4-6 months post abortion.
Spotting prior to periods is also due to this condition only.
Yes you can take trenaxa in each menstrual periods to decrease the amount of periods.
I would suggest you to consult your doctor and start taking oral contraceptive pills cyclically to have cyclical periods, reduce the menstrual flow and contraceptive effect.
