What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Apr 2017
Question: I am a 45 year old woman currently on peritoneal dialysis (I have henoch schonlein purpurra, went into kidney failure 15 years ago, received a transplant from a living related donor 13 years ago that kidney is now failing). I was on blood pressure medicine but since starting PD in November my bp has been running low so my dr stopped the meds. I have had neuropathy in my legs and currently am experiencing a swelling in both my calves. It is hard, warm and painful to the touch (like severe bruising). When I am standing I experience a burning like sensation. I had an ultrasound on both calves and no clots were detected. I do not have any edema anywhere else

Brief Answer:
Neuropathic pain medicines could help.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted your clinical details. Based on this, the most likely diagnosis is peripheral neuropathy with cellulitis. Cellulitis causes infection of subcutaneous (soft tissue beneath the skin) tissue, leading to increased warmth, pain and tenderness.

A course of antibiotics such as Augmentin would be useful. For burning due to neuropathy, gabapentin capsules can be taken.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
