Question: Hi I just had a ultrasound and it says I had dominant follicles measuring 26mm which have been seen in both ovaries .
Can you please tell me what that means

Brief Answer:
they are seen in anovulation or might be asymptomatic

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I understand your concern.

In my opinion the normal process is
1. Every month a group of follicles is recruited from which only a single follicle grows and that is called dominant follicle. This occurs in both ovaries.

2.The dominant follicle grows at the rate of 1 to 2 mm daily and reaches 20 mm or more at ovulation.

3.After the ovulation shrinkage of follicle occurs.

Large size of follicle as in your ultrasound might be due to:-
1. The follicle grows upto maximum but there is no ovulation and size of follicle will be more.example-polycystic ovarian disease(PCOD).
2.Failure of absorption of fluid in an incompletely developed follicle.

But if you have completed your family and the cycles are regular nothing to worry. They
disappear in few weeks to months. They rarely cause symptoms like pain abdomen .

But if your cycles are irregular and trying for pregnancy you might need hormones and ovulation induction drugs.

Hope this satisfies your query.

Brief Answer:
if cycles are regular ovulation is occurring

Detailed Answer:
Hello madam,I understand your concern.
What I mean is if you have irregular periods this follicles might be the cause and there will be no release of egg.

But if your cycles are normal they might be due to failure of absorption of fluid in incompletely developed follicle. And that case you need not worry. ovulation might be occurring from other normal dominant follicle.

Hope this satisfies your query.

Brief Answer:
home ovulation kits not that reliable

Detailed Answer:
Dear madam,I understand your concern.

If the ovulation has occurred the ultrasound
report will show
1. The shrinkage of follicle.
2.Fluid in pouch of XXXXXXX

As in the ultrasound it is mentioned dominant follicle, it means not ovulated.

The home ovulation tests are not that reliable.

You might be in need of Hcg injection along with Clomid for better results.

Dont worry madam you can try this cycle if not done Clomid with Hcg combination gives good results in 2 or 3 cycles.

Just be relaxed and leave aside anxiety. Because anxiety delays conception.
So have hope and faith. And you will have positive outcome.

Feel free to ask further query.
