Question: Hello Doctor, During last November, I had my blood test done. Results were as below. Blood glucose (F) 73 mg/dl Blood Glucose (PP)- 101 mg/dl Serum total T3 - 106.22 Serum T4- 11 Serum TSH - 6.11 TSH was showing high indicating consultancy with a thyroid specialist. All symptoms like weakness, memory loss, weight gain, hair loss, skin rashes was also there. I consulted a specialist and Tyronorm 25 mg was prescribed for me for 2 months. (1-0-0). I finished the course by XXXXXXX and has not taken medicine for last 2 month. I took another report last week and the results are as below. FT4- 1.23 TSH- 3.23 Anti TPO Abs: 118 1. Does this show improvement? 2. What does Anti TPO Abs indicate? 3. Do I need to continue medication? 4. Should I take another test later? regards XXXX

Brief Answer: Autoimmune thyroiditis. Detailed Answer: Dear XXXXXXX hi! positive TPO antibodies only mean that you have auto immune predisposition. but once TSH is high it means hypothyroidism. both put together mean autoimmune thyroiditis causing hypothyroidism. and definitely that is the most common cause. yes you must continue treatment and keep monitoring for every 3 monthly interval. you need to take the medicine for long may be whole life. regards!
