Question: I AM 78 YEARS OLD AND I RECENTLY WENT TO MY DOCTOR FOR MY ANNUAL PROSTATE EXAM AND THE READING WENT FROM 2.8 TO 4 IN ONE YEARS TIMEii AM HAVING ANOTHER BLOOD TEST. I HAVE READ MANY ARTICLES AND WANT YOUR OPINION BASED ON MY AGE SHOULD I GO ON WATCHFULL SURVALIANCE TO SEE IF it GOES ANY HIGHER. I HAVE NO SYMPONTS OF ANY PROBLEMS URINIEATING Most of what i have read says to avoid biopSy but try other methods FIRST

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. A PSA level of 4 ng/ml is still within the normal range (uppermost level of normal), and a level of 4 ng/ml still doesn't warrant the use of a biopsy.

So yes, I do recommend watching your PSA levels for a while, along with an ultrasound of your prostate to get the required measurements, so if at all required, they can be compared with future measurements. For now, waiting and watching is required.

Levels between 4-10 ng/ml require for a biopsy to be conducted but as yours is still not there, let us wait and watch, and follow up using size measurements and other non-invasive methods to begin with, i.e. if the levels rise about 4 ng/ml.
