Brief Answer:
Lifestyle Management and Medicines

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and following is/are the recommended guidelines for you:

1. Since you are also being overweight which is also a risk factor for the same thus have this weight problem differentiated from other causes of weight gain [causing high cholesterol] esp. under active thyroid, impaired blood sugar, occupational, lack of exercise, diet rich in fats/ carbohydrates, alcohol consumption, use of any blood pressure medicines, unusual overeating due to stress at office (please exclude these possibilities with relevant physical examinations & investigations)

2. you can practice following healthy diet and life style:

i. LOW FAT DIET:
Avoid: butter, ghee, cheese, unskimmed milk, saturated oil, deep fried foods, yellow of egg, hamburger, deep fried fish
. avoid alcohol which increases triglycerides level
. avoid caffeine, tobacco, potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets, yam, fruits with sweet pulp like banana XXXXXXX chickoo and grapes.
. Avoid sedentary lifestyle, day time sleeping after meals, newly harvested rice, curd, butter, ghee, cheese, cream, chocolates, cakes, pastries, ice-creams,

Take:
. More of soups, but without butter
. plenty of salads of uncooked or boiled vegetables like leafy vegetables, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, carrot etc.
. sprouted pulses (raw)
. more of bhajis prepared with minimum or no oil
. skimmed milk up to 1 cup/day

PS. items that actually help to reduce cholesterol are- Onion, garlic, soybean, curds of skimmed milk, apple.

3. Tips on Eating: Starvation is not the right way to loose weight. Take the right type of diet and eat heartily:
AVOID: Processed and tinned foods opt for fresh foods. Eliminate all cold food and drink; you should eat nothing that is refrigerator cold.

4. develop healthy eating habits: eat slowly, chew thoroughly, and use non stick cooking ware for cooking.

5. You cannot burn more than 300 calories through EXERCISE everyday! So it is important to control the tongue, along with whatever exercise you do:

i. ½ hour of walking burn 130 calories
. ½ hour of jogging/running burn 300-350 calories
. ½ hour of swimming burn 250 calories
. ½ hour of cycling burn 150 calories
. ½ hour of aerobic exercise burn 250 calories
. ½ hour of light exercise like writing/driving burn 50 calories i.e. if you don’t exercise you consume about 2000-2500 calories per day. To this you Add any of the above exercise protocol to consume more calories, and keep your calorie consumption below 2000 per day and you will be losing weight.

6. Consult a Yogic expert regarding Pranayam and Yogic Asans regarding breathing exercises and managing stress and consult with a cardiologist regarding any other lab. tests (E.C.G) to rule out any Ischemic heart Disease.

7. Since vitamin D level is low [ Vitamin D is required for conversion of cholesterol from skin] and low level means that the liver is pushing out more cholesterol [ could be cause and effect]

8. For Vitamin D: best is sunshine [early mornin [8-9] and late evening [4-5], carrot, radish, tomato, mint, coriander, amlaki rasayan, soybean, green vegetables, cucumber, cabbage, dry mushroom, banana, cod liver oil.
Vit. D fortified: pineapple,yogurt,milk.

PS. there is no specific medicine to increase vitamin D level, continue with Ergocalciferol

9. Some Ayurveda compounds which are prescribed include:
. Triphala,Arogya vardhini Vati,,Chandraprabha Vati,Triphala Guggulu, Medohar guggulu, Tablet Abana and since these are prescription drugs you should contact with your Local Ayurveda Physician regarding their dosage.

10. since vitamin D level is low thus absorption of calcium and zinc will be affected [check with their levels too].
