What Does My Grandmother's Urine Routine Test Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Oct 2014
Question: I just got my grandmother's urine routine checkup done. The pus cell count came out to be 2-3 which seems within normal range. On the other hand, her epithelial cell count was showing as 60-80. This feels like a lot. We had got a similar test done a week prior wherein the pus cell count was 60-80 and epithelial cell range was 15-20. Clearly now, the pus cell now has reduced very sharply but the epithelial cell count has spiked up as I have above. She has been under a strict medication for almost 3 weeks now. So should we make of these differences in the two reports. In both cases, the urine samples were sent the urine sample to the same pathologist. The earlier one as well as the latest one.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear.
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
In first time you have urinary tract infection so pus cells are higher. In second sample after treatment you have normal pus cells means your infection is clear now.
Epithelial cells has not much significant in first sample. Second time there may be vaginal secretion mixed with urine so epithelial cells are higher. It doesn't signify any major illness. So don't worry about that. Just be relaxed.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.

Is 60-80 epithelial cell count ok then. Coz wherever i have read about it, i have learned that it is not a good thing and is a sign for infection.

So then since the pus cell count ( 2-3) is normal, the epithelial cell count of range 60-80 is not worth worrying about??

Brief Answer:
Its not an indicator of infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear.
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

Your pus cell count is normal so its not an infection. Epithelial cell count is definitely high but from epithelial cell count only we can not say anything. As I said earlier, even slight mixture of vaginal fluid can lead to this. So please if you have any other symptoms then tell me. So I can help you further. If you don't have any symptoms then no treatment is required.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer.
