What Does My Chest X-ray Report Indicate?
Question: What does this mean? Had an chest x-ray and this was noted on the printout:
"There are no acute pulmonary parenchymal findings. Hyperinflation is again noted. There is a calcified granuloma in the left lower lobe. There is no pleural fluid. Heart size is normal. Mediastinal and hilar contours are unremarkable. Osseous structures are intact."

I am Dr. Jyothi BL and I will be answering your query.
Based on your x-ray report, my opinion is as follows:
1. You do not have any acute infection (no ongoing or recent infection).
2. Hyperinflation, feature of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (you are on treatment with bronchodilator for it), possibly asthma or emphysema - This was also seen previously, and the same is noted. It is normal for you.
3. Calcified granuloma - Old healed lesion - any healed lesion can get calcified - So its nothing to worry about. It is seen in left side on lower lobe of lung.
4. No pleural fluid - its normal. Only when it is present, we need to worry about it.
5. Heart size normal. Mediastinal and hilar contours are unremarkable. - Other structures in chest are normal.
6. Osseus structures are intact - All bones seen on x-ray including ribs, sternum, clavicle are intact with no fractures.
