Posted on Sat, 8 Nov 2014
Question: I just got my blood test back from the lab. I am a 50 year old white male, my concerns are a few things that I have never been flagged for.
1. ALT (SGPT) levels at 47
2. eGFR non afr amer low at 57
3. Serum Creatinine 1.12
I do still workout and take proteins powders and have a hemochromatosis gene (not sure which one). No ferritin results, I am 5'7" 240lbs, non drinker

Brief Answer:
Your results are almost normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear.
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. ALT is a liver enzyme. Its level increase in liver damage. Your ALT level is 47.2 so its only mildly increase. It is not a clinically significant rise value. second thing your egfr is slightly low and creatinine is at high normal range. Again both of them can be considered as normal. So your all reports are almost within normal range.
You have hemochromatosis. If not confirmed then go for liver biopsy. Hfe gene mutation is common in that. Please send me your ferritine level. It will decide whether you need active treatment or not.
Consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic.

I had a test done a few years ago they said I had the one gene for hemochromatosis but not the disease itself. They said I needed another gene to has the disease. My recent test did not check for Iron levels. Thanks

Brief Answer:
It means you don't have hemochromatosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear.
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. Hemochromatosis is autosomal recessive disorder so both defective gene is required for disease manifestation. You have one normal gene so you are not suffering from hemochromatosis. No need to worry. just be relaxed . If you have any symptoms then consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly. Otherwise no any treatment is required.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer you again.
