What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 4 Oct 2016
Question: Hello Doctor,

My father, 78 years old, is a patient of Parkinson for last 7 years and has been taking levodopa and other related medcines to control tremors. He was recently hospitalized due to episode of unconsiousness. All his vital stats came fine. Weakness and irregular medication was the only explanation that doctors provided for his sudden unconsiousness. Apart from medicines and supplements Doctor had suggested for proper diet to recover from weakness. He has been recovering but at a very slow pace.

Eversince, he was discharged from the hospital, we have observed that his food intake has reduced drastically. Also, in night, sometimes he has episodes of hallucinations.

In my earlier query I had asked any doctor to suggest any good syrup to increase the appetite. Dr. XXXXXXX Panwar suggested some syrups and we have aleady started giving one to my dad. We can see some improvement in his diet. But he is still very weak. In order to clear all the doubts we got some common tests done for my dad. And, we want any doctor to help us determine if everything is alright in the test reports. It would be a great help.

Regards

I have just uploaded the latest lab reports of my dad from today's tests.

There is low hemoglobin, raised tlc and raised blood sugar.
Is he diabetic?
Any cough, sputum, fever, urinary complains?
You need to get his urine examination and chest xray.
For blood sugar you need to consult a physician or endocrinologist.
Get fasting and PP blood sugar with hba1c.
Iron supplementation for low hemoglobin.
Any history of piles or abdominal bleeding or bleeding via urine?
Visit to a physician will be helpful.
Continue medications for parkinsons.
In later stages, memory impairment and hallucination can occur.
The drug doses may br reduced with increased frequency.

Hello Doctor XXXXXXX

Thanks for your instant response.

My dad takes following medicines: Syncopane, Bromocriptine Pramipex, Schelcal CT Cetil Quitipine Pantop Cremalax

Doctor I have attached two reports. I hope you saw both of them.

Doctor he is not having any cough or sputum problem. There was fever two days ago in the evening. We gave him paracetamol and since then there is no fever. Since, yesterday evening he is eating some more food also after we started the appetize syrup. But he is still very weak, thin and always sleepy. We have to wake him up so that he can eat something. And even while eating he is half asleep. Do you think that is because of iron deficieny? or sugar. What can we do about sugar, Doctor? may we stop giving him anything sweet atall.

From tomorrow onwards we are also going to start non-veg food for him. I hope that will also help.

Also doctor, can you please suggest any good iron supplement for my dad. We live in XXXXXXX

And doctor, there is no bleeding in urine or stool. He doesn't have any history of diabetes to the best of our knowledge.
Around 27 years ago he did have a minor surgery for internal piles.

Thank you, Dr. XXXXXXX

We have now stopped giving Quitipine. since, yesterday. But his unconsiousness is going away.

We will be sending urine sample tomorrow morning for examination. My dad's nurse was on holiday today so we could not get it done today. `

Doctor, I want to ask you can we give glucose drip to my father? will it help for his unconsiousness.

We have a daily nurse who comes to attend my dad and can help with glucose bottle if you suggest so.

Regards

I meant to say his consiousness is not going away.

Doctor,
The latest update on my dad's condition is that doctors at the hospital are saying that his condition is critical as his blood pressure is drastically down. They have given 2 units of blood transfusion till now. But they are saying that there may be need to go for ventilator and they are asking for our permission for that. They also said that his kidneys and liver have some infection and are not functioning properly.

Can you please suggest about ventilator at this time. Is that worth. Does it look like its my dad's last stage.

Regards
doctor
Answered by Dr. Neeraj Kumar (22 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Go for critical care and ventilatory support

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Ventilatory support is required in critical cases if respiratory functions are compromised.
Fall in blood pressure is another poor outcome marker.
All these symptoms seems to be related to infection.
Follow advices by treating doctor as needed in this critical situation.
Praying for recovery.
