Brief Answer:
High ESR indicates that she might have a health problem

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. ESR means erythrocyte sedimentation rate and tells the rate at which the red blood cells separate from the plasma. It is usually high in inflammatory and infectious conditions. It can increase due to any medical condition. It is important to know complete medical history of your mother and any problems she has.

2. The normal range is 0-22 mm/hr for men and 0-29 mm/hr for women at end of first hour.

3. Having a high ESR of 150 requires to evaluated in detail for the symptoms and confirmation of disease. ESR will be reduced by treating the condition that is causing it to be high. Therefore high ESR is an alarm that there is some health problem. To know exactly what problem she has it will be important to do a complete health check up and refer any past medical history.

Complete health check up includes blood tests for sugar, electrolytes, liver, kidney and cholesterol, urine tests, stool test, ultrasound scan abdomen, chest X ray, ECG and echocardiography. Rest of special test depends on basic test report.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
