Hello Sir,

report only details wbc reading- 3.1 in 2012 to 2,6 now-

our doctor is concerned about myleodysplatic disorders- do you know of benign conditions that could cause a 2.6 wbc

thanks for your reply

Bone marrow suppression

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the information.

I shall assume that the WBC count you have provided means 2.6 thousand per ml when compared to the normal range of 8 to 11 thousand per ml.

There are numerous causes for such a low count some of them being.

1. Bone marrow suppression due to medications
2. Chemotherapy or radiation therapy
3. Myelofibrosis
4. Aplastic anemia
5. Systemic lupus erythematosus
6. Enlargement of the spleen
7. Folate and Vit B 12 deficiencies
8. Copper and zinc deficiencies
9. Malnutrition
10. Myelodysplastic syndrome ,Myelokathexis etc..

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.

regards,
