What Does Endometrial Thickness Of 26 Mm Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Oct 2014
Question: Namesthe Sir,

I am XXXX, My mother was done a ultrasound and found that the endometrail thickness was 26 mm..1 week ago.. she had the similar test done in 2011 the tickness was about 11mm..she was suffering from pain while urinating and consulted the physician in australia where she is living now with me.. The doctor initially checked that there is some small lump inside the vagina..the lump is tested and sent the sample for biopsy, the results are good and no cancer.. but now doctor also advised to do the following tests in 3 weeks.

1. Historoscopy, Dilation and curettage of uterus..
We couldnot get an earlier appointment to do the above test..

Is the endometrial thickness of 26 mm related to cancer..
Also, In the Utrasound they found 2 small uterine fibroids..
No abnormality found in the urinary tract..

1: Any suggesstions or conclusion about cancer
2: Also, Is there any medication to reduce the endometrial thickness and to remove the follips and fibroids without any surgery..

3: Once follips are removed through surgery , do they appear or grow again….

4: can we wait for 3-4 weeks to remove the follips and fibroids or anything urgent to remove them,,, any danger now..until they are removed.. since the size of endometrial thickness is 26 mm and a bigger follip present in the uterus..

5.. Based on the attached report what is ur opinion and treatment solution in ayurvedic for reducing this endometrial thickness.

---------past history

she was treated with breast cancer in 2000 in the initial stage and the breast removed.. Also she was treated for schinopheria...depression for about 15 years..also she is diabetic.., has identified low bone density about 1 Year back

--------current medications..
PALIRIS 3mg
PACITANE
DIAVIT PLUS
GLUCONORM G2

Tests done so far.
------------------.
did ultrasound recently
also taken a sample for a small lump inside the vagina below the uterus..
there is no cancer in the lump/ extra tissue growth..which is sent to biopsy..

Advised to do the below tests for removing fibroids, follips..
and to do biopsy of the bigger follip for a endometrial cancer or uterine cancer..
Attached the ultrasound report to this question..

1. Historoscopy, Dilation and curettage of uterus..

Detailed Answer:
Dear

Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern.

1. since she is diabetic, make sure her blood sugar is normal, only then the doctor will operate. [value?], check with thyroid profile also.
PS.
i. Endometrial cancer is 4 times more common in women with diabetes.
ii. Women who have had breast cancer may have an increased risk of developing endometrial cancer. [both are associated risk factor in her history, so one has to be extra cautious and vigilant]
iii. Recent studies have showed that women with high levels of Vitamin D were/are at 24% lower risk of developing endometriosis than who had low or deficient levels of Vitamin D. [as her bone density is low] thus having it as supplement is good for her health.

2. Since her age is post menopausal thus do let me know whether endometrial thickness is/was associated with vaginal bleeding or not?

PS. with increasing women's age her chances of cancer increases with each endometrial thickness but chances are low if it is without vaginal bleeding

3. Is she on any hormonal therapy or medicine [tamoxifen]?

4. at her age one has to rule out 'malignancy' with relevant examination & investigations and since her age is post reproductive thus can undergo hysteroscopy and later dilatation & curettage for alleviation of symptoms

PS. keep in mind that after removal of uterus, her body will be deficient of female hormones which may result in hormonal/emotional imbalance.

5. In Ayurveda we usually treat the disease on the basis of: 'anta kala shotha' or yoni kanda where there is involvement of all the three doshas:
. kapha [proliferation of tissue]
. vata disorder [pain].
.pitta [inflammation] and since biopsy report is normal we can proceed with Ayurveda treatment but you can wait for couple of weeks [since doctor has advised to repeat the test after 3 weeks]

PS. since cancer is not proved yet, thus chances of metastasis [spreading to other parts] is remote thus one can safely negotiate the said period.

6. please revert back with your concerns
