What Does Delayed Periods, Hot Flashes, Weight Gain And Night Sweats Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Apr 2015
Question: I have every symptom of early menopause at 41.... I have not had a period for 9 months, severe hot flashes, unexpected weight gain in my tummy, night sweats....yet my doctor told me that while my estrogen was low, it was nowhere menopausal range. He did tell me that my vitamin D level was only 7 and told me my symptoms could be explained by that. Do you agree? The weight gain is what is the most uncomfortable for me because it feels like fluid retention. Any advice?

Brief Answer:
Did he measure your follicle stimulating hormone levels?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. Though they are suggestive of menopause, they do not entirely fit the description. What were your levels of FSH as this is the most recommended hormone to measure in evaluating menopause?

Besides, I will suggest that your doctor should keep menopause out of the way and investigate these symptoms fully. Weight gain is not typical during menopause. I believe there is something wrong going on at this time, most likely not menopause but, needs to be rigorously investigated. Did he do an ultrasound of the abdomen?

Your symptoms are not caused by low levels of VitD. That is simply not part of the symptom sod low level of VitD.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
