What Does Darker Urine With Pelvic And Backache Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Oct 2017
Question: I have been having pain on my right side. Pain coming from the back just above the pelvis area and radiates around the side to the front. Recently my urine has gotten a darker color and sometimes it looks like there is red color in urine. This does not happen every time I urinate mostly late evening. I take Plavix, Atorvistatin, and an aspirin daily. I do not have high blood pressure. I have had recent blood test and everything came back OK. I do have cyst on my left kidney but the urologist said I could wait until I had pain to have them removed. I do not have any swelling of feet or legs. I do not have any nausea. I had a 7mm section of skin cancer removed from my chest in XXXXXXX but the area has completely healed and I was checked in August for any other areas. I consume very little salt or sodium. I try to drink plenty of water daily and do not drink soda.

Brief Answer:
Advice to undergo Xray/CT scan of Abdomen.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic,

The pain you are describing is likely to be originating from the kidney. Redness in urine is indicative of the presence of blood. The most typical cause for such pain and blood in urine is the presence of Ureteric stones. The stones originate in the kidney and travel down the ureters causing pain.

Xray of Kidney, ureter, the bladder can pick up the presence of stones. Some stones can be missed in the Xray. In such cases, CT scan is used to confirm the diagnosis. CT scan will also help rule out other causes for pain arising from kidney like bleeding cyst (especially since you have a cyst on left kidney)
You will also need urine analysis and culture to rule out associated infection.

Meanwhile, drink plenty of fluids. You can use Tylenol for pain. Avoid other NSAIDs like Advil/Aleve as it is harmful to the kidney.

Please be advised to follow up with the urgent care for necessary evaluation and management.
