Posted on Tue, 8 Jul 2014
Question: Hello,

We are married for 5 years and trying for baby. We have undergone 5 to 6 clomid cycles and 1 IUI cycle in XXXXXXX We went to a doctor here and he said before starting other treatment he wanted to get hysteroscopy done as he see irregular lining in endomtrium. Now he says that her pathalogy report says endometrium is inactive, so he want to get Endometrial funtion test done from XXXXXXX university. When i checked on internet most of the people who underwent this test had undergone 2 or three IVF cycles.

My question is do we need to go for this EFT test and also what is inactive endometrium mean ?

I have also added her D&C report which was done by another doctor. Using only this report can a doctor decide something on infertility of her embryo ?

Brief Answer:
Yes. EFT is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The thinning of the inner lining of the uterus, due to lack of hormones, is called inactive endometrium. This is usually seen in post menopausal females. A thick growing endoetrium is necessary for the embryo to become implanted in the uterine cavity.
The D&C report that has been attached clearly indicates an inactive endoetriu as a possible cause of infertility. This has been detected after histopathological examination. It is best to undergo further tests- EFT as advised by your specialist.

Hello XXXXXXX Madam,

Thanks for your kind answer. Before she underwent D&C she was on clomid cycles where she was taking projesteron and other harmones. Is this inactive endometrium cause of those harmones ? i read in this URL (https://www.inkling.com/read/diagnostic-gynecologic-obstetric-pathology-crum-2nd/chapter-16/endometrial-pathology ) that inactive endometrium will be seen in patients who use harmones. EFT costs us more than 2.5lk so we need to be absolutely sure before really go for it. When i see in internet most people who underwent this test were people who had IVF failures. so i was thinking it is too early for us to go for this test.

How bad is inactive endometrium ? can that be treated ? do we have chance of getting baby ?
Just to add.. during her scans in clomid cycles her endometrium thinkness was good.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Taking Clomid and progesterone therapy will help in better growth of endoetrium. I have read the article you have mentioned. It is better to do the test earlier as an early diagnosis will help in better treatment. may be you will not need IVF after the test and the endometrial growth can be regulated with the help of proper hormones. This can help in natural conception. money spent on this test is well spent as the inactive endoetrium is indicated on a histopathology examination.
It is the type of glands that grow which matter rather than the thickness.
Hope my answer is helpful.
