What Does A Rash From Breast To Pubic Region Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jun 2014
Question: I have a rash that started on my breasts and has since spread to my pubic region, back, neck, and legs (it is a lot less severe on my back, legs, and neck). Two weeks ago, I was in a lake, wearing a full wetsuit on top of a bikini bathing suit. The rash started on my breasts the next day but was light. It is reddish, not itchy, and has a scabby appearance. It is spreading over the past two weeks

Brief Answer:
Dermatitis/Hydrocortisone/Moisturise cum emollient

Detailed Answer:
Hi there XXXXXXX
I hear you & have seen the visual provided.
From your history & clinical appearance, it does appear like some form of eczema most likely a dermatitis like cercarial dermatitis.
As you say the rash is largely non itchy, it appears you could do well with the use of an emollient/Moisturiser. I would recommend Sebamed's 'Fresh Shower' that has a built in moisturiser into the shower gel.
In addition, perhaps a single shot of 100mg Hydrocortisone given as a slow IV injection will help clear the rash quicker.
Should you prefer a non-steroidal intervention, then do try using a once daily 5mg Levocetrizine tablet taken as one or two tabs once a day for the next week or so. Xyzal is a common trade name.
I trust this answer meets your requirements & gives you a clear action plan. Do remember to ensure the wet-suit & Bikini are given an extra rinse in lukewarm water & dried well in sunlight to prevent recurrences.
Good Luck.

Hello,

Thank you for the response. However, I am unsatisfied with your answers. Your recommendations, aside from the emollient/moisturizer require a prescription. The reason I used this service is because I do not have access to a doctor or hospital right now to obtain a prescription. What are your suggestions that do not require a prescription? Additionally, I want to ensure that your responses address the fact that this continues to spread to other parts of my body.

Again, please share resolutions that are actually obtainable using this service. I am extremely frustrated right now that I was directed to unobtainable solutions.

Thank you,

XXXX

Brief Answer:
Aveeno lotion; frequent showers;antihistamine

Detailed Answer:
Hi there XXXXXXX
I understand your frustrations.
However, I have given you the best possible advice from a medical standpoint. 2 out of 3 suggestions can be purchased OTC (Over the counter).
Should Xyzal (levocetrizine ) be an issue, go for the old Avil tablet or Atarax tablet (any antihistamine you may have lying around).
I do understand it is spreading to different parts of the body & hence I suggested a single dose of a short acting steroid. From your first interaction & query, I had no clue you had no access to a doctor or hospital. Had you mentioned this, would have tailored it differently. As I mentioned, I gave you the best possible advice at the time as quickly as possible.
I still stick by my suggestions on the moisturiser/emollient from Sebamed & the 'fresh shower' I recommended earlier; In addition, do use the shower 2-3 times/day to help wash off any dust etc that may be aggravating your issue sans soap also. Should this Sebamed products prove difficult to obtain in your neck of the woods, perhaps Aveeno anti-pruritic lotion (anti-itch) coupled with a bath oil containing colloidal oat meal from the Aveeno brand (both OTC products) would be a good viable alternative. Please avoid calamine based products as they tend to block the pores & while they provide temporary relief, in the long run, they do not help.
I would have suggested locally applied steroid lotions but again, this may be prescription based in your area...if not, Desonide lotion applied twice daily to the affected areas is a good option to the injectable hydrocortisone.
Once again, this site has its limitations & there is only so much we can suggest & apologies for your frustrations. I do hope that this revised suggestion will help.
Good Luck & do sincerely wish you well & hope this works. Cheers.

Hello,

Again, I appreciate the response but am very unsatisfied with this service. I am using an online doctor because it is a holiday weekend and all offices are closed, as well as it takes a long time to get into a dermatology office. I recognize urgent care is an option but those doctors do not have skin expertise.

Your suggestions - of using desonide lotion - was again, not available over the counter. I checked Target pharmacy, Walgreen's pharmacy, and the local grocery store pharmacy. The only thing I was able to obtain is the Aveeno lotion and this is something Iwould have purchased without doctor advice.

I expect this question will not be included in my follow-up questions. I would like to be directed to customer service as I am extremely unsatisfied with this service.

appreciate your assistance in the matter.
