What Does A Lump In Abdomen Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Sep 2014
Question: recently I visited my GP reguarding some stomach discomfort and a lump that I had in the right side of my abdomen, my GP examined me and said that what I was feeling was the top part of my liver??, that is not making sense to me..i was thinking more lipoma etc??, I occasionaly get some light twinges from the area around the lump more after I press down on it for some time.

now i seem to be getting some very mild pain under the rib cage on the right side twinge/stitch like feeling), and occasional mild pain in the centre under the breast bone, just cant understand what's going on with me, and I do have this on a regular basis, I know im not in agonising pain and feel well but it is getting me down when I keep thinking al sorts Im 22

Brief Answer:
You should be investigated.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for posting in health care magic.
First of all, the location of the swelling is important. If it is in the muscles or beneath the skin, it could be Lipoma.
If it is deep seated, it could be something related to some organ.
Both the lesions will be differentiated by Ultrasound abdomen.
But the pain in the centre can be due to Acid peptic disease. It will be confirmed by Upper GI Endoscope.
I prescribe Proton pump inhibitor like Rabeprazole and anti spasmodic tablet to my patients with similar complaints.
But,I request you to consult your doctor and get checked and investigated.
If you come back with investigation reports, I will clarify further.
If you have any queries, you can post here.
Nothing to worry.
Wish you good health.
Regards

To be quite honest it's not so much the centre, my pain is mild but quite irritating its like a sting feeling (pinch) if that makes sense it go's from under the rib cage I can have bouts of this pain there and then on occassions I can have it slightly further down.. the lump feels a bit irregular shaped its firm but has some give??... I do have some slight pain that comes from this area.

I can describe the pain sensations I get as sharp twinges, but it does not prevent me from carrying out any activities, I am sleeping and eating fine, passing urine and stools okay, but obviously I have been very anxious and coming up with alsorts of conclusions, been fearing the worst like tumors? fatty liver??, etc...

I do have an appointment scheduled with my General Practitioner, I suppose I was just looking for an idea of what this could be and to be reassured, would you say from what I have explained that this can be sorted and it's not a serious condition?

much appreciated.

Brief Answer:
You should not worry much.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As you are not having Vomiting, constipation, loose stools, your gut is normal.
As you are eating and sleeping well, the discomfort is minimal.
Even then, you should be investigated.
If it is lipoma, it can be removed in toto.
Fatty liver can also be treated with medicines.
Nothing to worry.
Wish you good health.
