Question: Hello Dr. Shathi, I would like to thank you for the response you posted for my query on Helath care magic. As I was out of station, I was not able to respond to it and it is closed now. Below was my query and your response. Please let me know if I can upload the photographs now, or I should open a fresh query: Hello Doctor, I have got a small hard bump on my right hand point finger. It is around the first joint of the finger (below the nail). It'been around 1.5 - 2 months now since I observed this. It would'nt bother me as such, but when I put pressure on it while doing household jobs, it slightly pains. Just wanted to check if I can do anything about it.

Brief Answer: corn is most likely Detailed Answer: Hello XXXXXXX Thank you for the pictures. It most likely seems to be corn or hyperkeratosis of the finger. Do you use this finger very often like for playing any musical instrument, or excessive typing with more strain on this finger? Corn usually occurs in areas which are prone to pressure and constant friction. You need not bother about this as it is very benign condition. It does not require any medical treatment as such. Since it pains you occasionally, and also to prevent it from increasing further, I suggest you these measures: - You can apply XXXXXXX cidar vinegar on the area twice to thrice daily and let it dry. Continue to use it for 3 to 4 weeks, and the corn should disappear. You can also use castor oil or even petroleum jelly to soften the skin in the area. - Alternatively, you can use DUOFILM topical solution that contains salicylic acid 16.7 % w/w and lactic acid 16.7 %. This will help in removing the dead skin and also breaking down the corn. You may have to use it for 3 to 4 weeks again. - To prevent it from recurring, you must avoid applying continuous pressure over the area in any form. Hope this helps you. Get well soon.

Hello Dr. Shanthi, Thanks so much for your advise. I usually put pressure on this finger while chopping vegetables & cooking, or while carrying some heavy luggage in hand. As it is the point finger, it is hit most of the times while doing such household chores. However, I will try not to put much pressure from now onwards. I will also follow the advise provided by you and I feel it would help !! Thanks once again.
