Question: SUDDENLY I WAKE UP AND A DARK BRUISE ON UPPER ARM...PAINFUL TO THE TOUCH...LUMP UNDER BRUISE...SIZE OF A HALF DOLLAR...NO HIT OR REASON FOR GETTING A BRUISE. WHAT CAUSED THE BRUISE?..

Brief Answer: insect bite Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for writing to HCM. That must be mostly due to an insect bite during your sleep. That lump can be due to inflammatory reaction to the insect saliva. It should go in a day or two. If itching occurs, you can take any antihistamine like cetrizine or levocetrizine.
