Question: Hi sir,

My Mother is 60 years old. She is suffering from high blood pressure and thyroid for which she is taking MetXL 50/5 and Thyronorm 25mg. during the earlier tests we used to see fasting blood glucose to be around 80. but when we went for a check up last month, we observed the TSH to be 4.87 and Fasting blood glucose to be 96. so we went for check up again this month and observed the readings for TSH and fasting glucose to be 4.63 and 99 respectively. can you please suggest ways to keep glucose in normal range as we saw readings only till 100 to be normal for fasting blood glucose. Thanks in Advance.

Brief Answer:
About glucose and TSH level;

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
You should not be concerned about your mother.
The glucose readings are normal ( up to 105 mg/ dl fasting) but the glucose is better monitored with HbA1c level. It gives information about the mean glucose level of the last three months.
Under 6.5% suggests for good glucose control.
One or two glucose measures are not very informative for the glucose control.
Regarding to TSH level, it is slightly elevated.
The levothyroxine dose should be increased, from 25 probably to 50 mcg (depends on the weight, concomitant cardiac diseases ect.).

Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
